Start your day with a satisfying hotel breakfast, marking the beginning of the next chapter in your Icelandic adventure. Today’s journey guides you to the remote and captivating eastern region of Iceland. Your destination is Djúpivogur, a picturesque fishing village renowned for its quaint harbor and awe-inspiring mountain vistas. Take some time to explore the village, immersing yourself in the tranquility of this coastal gem.

Continue your voyage to Egilsstaðir, where you can indulge in a delightful lunch and take a well-deserved break before the next phase of your expedition.

Next, set off for Borgarfjörður Eystri, a concealed gem famous for its puffin colonies and rugged beauty. Observe these charming seabirds in their native environment and wander through the picturesque village. Please note that puffins can be spotted in Iceland each year from mid-April to mid-August.

Your adventure continues with a visit to Dimmuborgir, a mystical lava field adorned with eerie rock formations and towering lava pillars. Explore the area and discover the folklore and legends that surround these dark and dramatic landscapes.

Make your way to Skútustaðagígar, a collection of pseudocraters formed by volcanic activity. Take a leisurely walk along the rim of these unique formations and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Take a break at Goðafoss, known as the ‘Waterfall of the Gods,’ celebrated for its beauty and historical importance. Immerse yourself in the ancient Icelandic sagas that surround this majestic waterfall while savoring the breathtaking views.

As we continue our journey through North Iceland, you’ll have the opportunity to explore something unique compared to the capital region of Iceland. Akureyri, the capital of the North, is a true gem, serving as a hub for culture, activities, and attractions.

Start your day with a delightful breakfast before delving into the charming town of Akureyri, often referred to as the ‘Capital of the North.’ Take a leisurely walk to the harbor and embark on an exciting Whale Watching Tour, where you’ll have the opportunity to witness magnificent whales breaching the ocean’s surface, creating unforgettable memories.

After your whale-watching adventure or a memorable morning exploring the Akureyri area, enjoy a relaxed lunch in town before continuing your journey. Next, you’ll head to Víðimýri Turf Church, one of the few remaining turf churches in Iceland. Built in 1834 by carpenter and Member of Parliament Jón Samsonarson, the church stands on a site with roots tracing back to the early days of Christianity in Iceland.

Now preserved by the Skagafjörður Heritage Museum, Víðimýri Church holds deep historical and cultural significance. Its interior showcases traditional post-Reformation seating arrangements and houses artifacts from earlier churches that once stood on the site.

You’ll have time to explore the scenic surroundings of the church. Please note that admission to the church is not included in the tour price. The church is open from June 1 to August 31, Tuesday to Sunday, between 12:00 and 18:00, and is closed on Mondays.

Explore Þrístapar, a historic site beside the Ring Road known as the setting of Iceland’s last execution. In January 1830, Agnes Magnúsdóttir and Friðrik Sigurðsson were beheaded here after being convicted of a double murder at Illugastaðir.
