Húsavík is emerging as a popular new shore stop of cruise ships to Iceland. This charming fishing town is the starting point for our tour.
1 Tjörnes CliffHringsbjarg, a towering cliff standing at 60 meters tall, sits on the edge of the Tjörnes peninsula, just north of Húsavík. Perched atop this cliff is the Tjörnes viewing platform, providing breathtaking panoramic vistas of the sea and Öxarfjörður fjord. With luck on your side, you may catch a glimpse of nesting pairs of puffins, the celebrated summer guests to our shores.
2 Ásbyrgi CanyonÁbyrgi is something of a hiddent gem, perhaps because it´s unique beauty is rather difficult to capture in a photo. Sheer canyon walls surround a small forest and lagoon, and countless birds call the area home.
According to myth, the horse-shoe shaped canyon was formed when the norse king Óðin´s eight-legged horse Sleipnir stomped upon the ground here.

There is something primordial about Dettifoss, and one feels himbled and insignicant beside it vast scale; Dettifoss measures 44m high and 100m wide!
4 Námaskarð geothermal areaOur next stop is the Námaskarð geothermal area, with its bubbling mud-pools and steaming hot-springs. Sulphur mist lingers in the air, creating an other-wordly affect. Mineral deposits from geothermal water has discoloured the rocks here, adding to the alien landscape.
Geothermal forces have played a major role in the formation of the landscapes of Iceland.
