1 Thingvellir National ParkThingvellir is vast national park of great historical and geological significance – so much so that it is one of only 3 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Iceland.
The park is famed for the Álmannagjá gorge faultline, which marks the divide between the North-American and Eurasian continental plates. Here one can stroll calmly stroll between the plates, which pierce upwards dramatically forming sheer cliffs on either side. The gorge increases in width by 2-3cm every year, as the plates drift further apart.
Thingvellir is held in great significance also as the site of Iceland´s first parliament.
2 Gullfoss WaterfallOur next stop is at Gullfoss waterfall, which translates to Golden waterfall. Gullfoss forms part of the glacial river, Hvitá, fed by the enormous Langjökull glacier to the north, clearly visible from Gullfoss on a clear day.
Gullfoss is an impressive sight – during the spring melt season, upto 2000 cubic meters of water explode over the falls every single second. For context, this is around 20 times larger than the flow in winter!
3 Geysir geothermal areaAt the Geysir Geothermal Area, walk past bubbling and boiling hot-springs before reaching the main attraction – Strokkur geysir. Strokkur erupts every 5-10 minutes, spewing steaming water upto 20m into the sky, though it has been known to reach heights of 40m.
Nearby is the dormant Geysir, after which this geothermal phenomenon is named. Geysir has not erupted in many years, but it was simply enormous when it did, with anecdotal report that it could reaxch upto 100m.
4 Laugarás LagoonDue to open in August 2025, we were so impressed with the vision and ambitions for this geothermal lagoon, that we made this tour! Nestled in a pristine riverside lcoation, Laugarás lagoon will feature the large central lagoon itself, with cold plunge, two saunas, in-lagoon bar, and much more. Discuss the beautiful Golden Circle stops you have enjoyed over the course of the day as you enjoy the soothing warm waters and lovely views.
The tour includes a Lerki entrance ticket, which includes a towel and a free drink of your choice at the swim-up in lagoon bar..
